Dancing with the Stars champ Derek Hough will make his Broadway debut in the final four performances of ballroom spectacular Burn the Floor, January 8-10 at the Longacre Theatre. Hough, who will partner fellow DWTS champ Kym Johnson, replaces Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who departs on January 7. Mary Murphy of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance will continue in Burn the Floor through closing day, as well.
Hough, who starred as Ren in the West End production of the musical Footloose, won season seven of Dancing with the Stars with partner Brooke Burke. He began dancing at age 11 and moved to London a year later with his younger sister, DWTS champ Julianne Hough, to live and train with dance coaches Shirley and Corky Ballas. Derek and their son Mark Ballas, also a Dancing with the Stars champ, are still best friends and perform together in the band Ballas Hough.
Directed and choreographed by Jason Gilkison, Burn the Floor opened on Broadway on August 2, 2009, and has extended twice. After closing, the show will embark on a national tour.
